What Brandt is known for

Brandt's reputation is in edgebanding: applying and trimming edge material along the side of a panel. That kind of machine is set up rather than programmed. The operator selects a job or a set of parameters at the control, covering the edge material, the glue, the trimming units in use and the feed, and the machine applies them to every panel that goes through. There is no part program describing a path, because there is no path to describe: the panel goes past the units in a straight line.

Where woodWOP fits, and where it does not

woodWOP is the programming software for the group's CNC machining and processing centres, and the .mpr file it writes is a part program: a panel, a set of holes, a set of contours. If the machine in front of you drills and routes, it is in the woodWOP world and MPR is the file it loads. If it applies edge material, it is not, and looking for an MPR to feed it will not get you anywhere. Some processing centres do both kinds of work in one pass, and those are programmed from woodWOP like any other.

How to tell which toolchain your machine is on

The quickest check is the control itself. Open the machine's own program directory and look at what is already in it. A list of .mpr files means woodWOP, and a converted program will go in beside them. A list of jobs or parameter sets with no part programs at all means the machine is set up rather than programmed, and no conversion is going to change that. This is a more reliable test than the model name, because brand and machine type do not line up neatly across a group this size.

If you do have an MPR to deal with

It is plain text and it opens in any editor. A header names the format version and the panel, a variables block gives the panel dimensions names so the program can be resized, and then one block per operation describes the work. The convention worth knowing before you read one is depth: a drilling depth is measured into the material as you would expect, but a contour depth is written as the height of material left standing under the cut, so 12 in an 18 mm panel means a 6 mm deep cut.

Converting a program into the Homag world
